Interval Training
Weight Loss
Why do women tend to lose weight than men?
Life is not fair, it is now scientifically proven.
It appears that exercise has no such important role in weight loss or how to maintain weight, specifically body mass (mass and weight are two different physical quantities. The basic unit of measurement of mass is kilogram, while the weight of the force equal to the product of body mass and gravity. Measured unit is newton.). But before you shed your equipment for training, wait. We should not reject the exercise as a method of weight loss, but we should understand what effects exercise has on your body, what it may or may not help.
Recent studies have all successfully resolved some still hidden secrets of the impact of exercise on metabolism, appetite and, in general, our body. Thus, for example, the metabolic effects of exercise are different in men and women.
No big “philosophy” about how to lose weight. Burn more calories than are taken into the body. Eat less or exercise more. Or, preferably, both. But it is not quite so simple and easy process.
Exercise can alter levels of hormones related to appetite, such as acylated ghrelin , which increases our desire for food, and insulin and leptin , which influence the way in which the body burns calories.
So last year at the conference the American College of Sports Medicine presented a study in which young men do 90 minutes of exercise at a rather high intensity, after which they declined ghrelin concentrations in the blood and so the desire for food for the rest of the day. Exercise has weakened their appetite.
But it is different for a woman’s body. If you burn more calories than you enter, and increasing the level of acylated ghrelin in the blood, it reduces the concentration of insulin, which means that your body is “called” to catch all those calories you lost with the exercise. Life is not fair, it is now scientifically proven. Thus, physiologically speaking, women have better mechanisms to keep fat in the body, which explain the evolutionary need to store energy in always possible reproductive purposes.
However, when women fail to lose weight, it frequently happens that during the time pounds come back. But this exercise shows is key.
A study published last month in the journal American Medical Association , researchers from Harvard University have examined data on 34,000 women. The study began when the women had an average of 54 years and followed them for the next 13 years. During this time women gained on average less than three pounds. Some get a lot more, and women whose weight remained unchanged said they had almost every day practiced for about an hour . It should be noted that this was not the effort of exercise but the intensity of exercise equal to about faster walking.
I dare to conclude that science tells us that losing weight may not be so tedious process. For a start it is enough, as often as you can, to discard the chair.
