Teenagers were successful! The most effective steps to weight loss were more exercise, reduced intake of carbonated drinks and regular weighing.
The study analyzed the strategy of weight control and lifestyle 130 teenagers. Half was able to lose weight – 62 of them, but stumbled to a 68. Subjects were divided into two groups, depending on how they have lost excess weight.
A healthy way of losing weight include the lower caloric intake, increased exercise, eating less fast food and carbonated drinks, more fruit, vegetables and water, and regular weighing scales. On the other hand, unhealthy methods included laxatives, vomiting, diuretics, smoking and fasting.
A higher percentage of respondents who were able to lose weight were using six or more healthy weight loss techniques. Only a small portion managed to achieve remarkable results by increased consumption of protein.
“Our results offer the first glimmer of optimism that many teens can lose weight and keep a new line. Also, the results indicate that there are no magic solutions , and increased intake of fruits and vegetables, less fat and breaking with a sedentary lifestyle offer the most promise for success, ” says Kerri Boutel with the Department of Pediatrics and Psychiatry at the University of California.
